Kent Adhesive Products Company (KAPCO) is a growing company in Kent Ohio. 

Kapco is a custom coater and converter of flexible pressure-sensitive materials. Founded in 1974 in Kent, Ohio, KAPCO is an innovative business that continues to define higher standards for adhesive applications. Kapco is servicing the Digital Media, Computer Aided Signage Media, Book Preservation, and the Custom Coating and Converting of pressure sensitive materials for a variety of markets including medical, electronic, automotive, and industrial. All of the company's operations are located in a modern 120,000-square-foot facility.

Kent Adhesive Products Co. (KAPCO) is seeking an experienced Press Operator to help support our growing custom business. 

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs various skilled work in the set-up and operation of converting and fabricating machines such as printing, die-cutting, laminating, kiss-cutting, butt-cutting, and sheeting. Acts as backup to department lead.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general supervision of the Department Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review job orders, drawings, specifications, job cards, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operation, and set-up requirements.
  • Verify material meets specifications before processing.
  • Set-up and operate the listed tools and equipment.
  • Thread and align material/materials through machine and dies.
  • Push buttons, turn knobs, maneuvers joy-stick, or depresses pedal to activate machine.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction. Troubleshoot production problems.
  • Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine set-ups and operation.
  • Accurately and timely record production information manually and in computer system i.e., Lot numbers, scrap, downtime, finished goods, return to stock inventory, hours, output.
  • Calculate/convert various units of measures SF, YDS, LF, MSI, pairs, sheets, each, and material yield.
  • Remove trim, scrap, or liner from equipment.
  • Log, number, and maintains tooling.
  • Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
  • Check QA on orders; know appropriate ISO standards; make quality decisions, and know when and to whom to advise.
  • Clean and maintain work station.
  • Assemble, package, and count workpieces according to work order specifications.
  • Pack work orders for shipment as required; secure and protect materials or products for shipping.
  • Place materials in boxes on skids for distribution.
  • Know, follow, and maintain safety standards.
  • Answer questions about various materials; respond to inquiries from employees, customers, and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

  • Cut cores, assemble boxes, and stack, mark, and pack finished workpieces.
  • Perform backup duties for related positions, as required.
  • Serve as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/ Experience:
A. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Helpful to have some training in machine operations. Helpful to have some related experience.
B. Helpful to have some experience operating the slitters or
C. Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A. Some knowledge of machine operations; Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to machining activities; Working knowledge in measuring to 1/64"
B. Helpful to have skill in operating slitters and the additional listed tools and equipment.
C. Ability to operate machinery according to specifications; calculate arithmetic computations accurately; calculate material yields; understand and follow oral and written instructions; carry out assigned projects to their completion; establish and maintain effective working relationships; pay close attention to detail; detect product defects.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Should have basic supervisory training, in-house or outside, as determined by company.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Flexographic press, offset die cut press (FME), tape measure, rules, templates files, wire brush, utility knife, shears, rolls, basic hand tools.
