Coater Operator

SUMMARY

Performs a variety of skilled work in the set-up and operation of coating machines.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works under the general supervision of the Department Supervisor
  • Reviews orders, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample materials to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece, sequence of operation, and set up requirements
  • Responsible for daily set up, operation and control of assigned coating process and listed equipment
  • Maintain all process set up sheets, records and shift logs as required
  • Verifies materials meet specification before processing
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. Troubleshoots production problems
  • Measures dimensions of material to determine accuracy of machine set-up and operation
  • Removes trim, or scrap from work equipment
  • Accurately and timely record production information manually and in computer system i.e. lot numbers, scrap, downtime, finished goods, return to stock inventory, hours, output
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or with a hoist, forklift, or other type of lifting device
  • Conveys materials from storage or work centers to designated area
  • Debug/setup/troubleshoot/documentation of product, process and raw material trial/testing to meet customer specification
  • Calculates/converts various unit of measures SF, YDS, LF, MSI, pairs, sheets, each, and material yield
  • Performs minor machine maintenance on machines, rolls, or work pieces
  • Checks QA according to ISO Inspection/Testing standard; makes decisions about quality and obtains appropriate advice when necessary; performs QC tests with production runs
  • Knows, follows and enforces safety standards
  • Cleans and maintains assigned workstation
  • Meets performance standards and efficiencies

OTHER DUTIES

  • Cuts cores, stacks, and transports finished materials
  • Performs backup duties for related positions, as required
  • Serves as a member of employee committees, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • A plus to have some coating experience
  • Any machine operation experience
  • Helpful to have some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to machining activities; Knowledge of measuring to 1/32"; Helpful to have some knowledge of machine operations; Helpful to have some knowledge of measuring to +/- .005" with a caliper or micrometer
  • A plus to have skill in operation of 80", 60" and 30" coaters, razor knives, hoist, personal computer, tape gun, pallet jack, tape measure, ruler, calipers, micrometers, and copy machine
  • Ability to coat/fabricate material according to drawings and specifications; ability to operate machinery according to specifications; ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to maintain good manual dexterity; ability to manage time well; ability to pay close attention to detail; ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to detect product defects
