Accountant

SUMMARY

Performs month end closing, financial statement preparation and assists in the maintenance of accounting records and tax return preparation. Assists VP of Finance with accounting support.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.
  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
  • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Profit, cost and inventory analysis

OTHER DUTIES

  • Provides clerical support to other department staff as required
  • Composes, enters and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy and completeness
  • Serves as a member on various employee committees or teams as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field, and
  • Two years of increasingly responsible related experience, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Skill in operating personal computer, including word processing and spreadsheet software; central financial computer; Call Log; 10 key calculator; phone, fax and copy machine; typewriter, printers paper shredder.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and quickly; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions.
